Abstract
582,214. Forming selenium coatings on metal. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd. April 28, 1944, No.7988. Convention date, May 1, 1943. [Class 82 (ii)] [Also in Groups XXXVI and XL] Selenium coatings are formed on the base plates of rectifier or light-sensitive elements by blowing the powder under pressure on to the heated plate. As shown, the selenium powder 14, formed by grinding selenium which has been melted and cooled, is blown at an air pressure of from 5 to 7 pounds per square inch through a steel-wool filter 11 and nozzle 13 on to the base plate 1, which may be of iron, steel or aluminium and is normally roughened. It may also be nickel-plated. The base-plate may be supported on a hot-plate 3 and heated from about 100-150C. and the powder may be sprayed to a thickness of from .004-.008 in. and baked for half-an-hour or so at a temperature just below the melting point of selenium, e.g., of from 200-214C.
