Abstract
580,290. Surface condensers. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. June 26, 1944, No. 12080. Convention date, June 26, 1943. [Class 64 (iii)] A mercury-vapour turbine 14 exhausts into. a condenser 10 containing superposed cooling- water coils 23, each connected by a pipe 24 to a header 26 supplied by a pump 27 and by a pipe 25 to a discharge header 28. A mixture ot steam and water flows from the header 28 through pipes 32-35 into a separator 29 being discharged tangentially against the walL thereof by nozzles 36 at the ends of the pipes. The water leaves the separator through a pipe- 31, while the steam passes off through a pipe 30. Condensate leaves the condenser through a pipe 37, and non-condensable gas, e.g., air, is withdrawn through a perforated pipe 38. The cooling coils are supported by radial arms disposed between the coils and secured to the pipe 38' and to vertical rods 40 secured to the endplates of the condenser.
