Abstract

580,072. Discharge lamps. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., and NELSON, E. H. May 10, 1944, No. 8950. [Class 39 (i)] In a high-pressure vapour discharge lamp having activated portions on the electrodes to assist starting, the electrodes 5 project upwards from the bottom of the lamp and are so shaped that the tips 7 are closer together than the distance between an activated portion 6 and the nearest part of the other electrode. When the apparatus is in steady running condition, the arc is then confined to the tips of the electrodes. The envelope consists of a vitreous tube 2 sealed at its lower end by a plug 3 of vitreous material, the lower ends 9 of the electrodes being pinched between the tube 2 and plug 3. Specification 384,067 is referred to.
