Abstract
578,611. Magnetic switches. LANDIS & GYR SOC. ANON. Dec. 17, 1943, No. 21238. Convention date, Dec. 21, 1942. [Class 38 (v)] The flux of a permanent magnet 1 is normally shunted through a member 4 adapted to be heated by a coil 5 (or itself to act as a heating conductor) so as to lose its magnetic properties, whereby the armature 6 is attracted to the poles 2, 3 against the action of spring 7 to open the contacts 8. Cooling of the member 4 allows the contacts to reclose, the movement of the armature in both directions being rapid due to the changing reluctance as it moves towards or from the poles. The Specification as open to inspection under Section 91 states also that the thermal member when acting as its own heater may be rotatable between the poles or mounted on one of them, and the armature may comprise the thermallysensitive member. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
