Abstract

578,548. Mounting guns &c. on aircraft. BLACKBURN AIRCRAFT, Ltd., and PETTY, G. E. Oct. 27, 1939, No. 28865. [Class 4] Guns or other machinery are mounted on a panel secured at one edge to the aircraft structure so that it can be swung down to give access to the assembly carried by the panel. A wing is shown having a panel 5 in its lower surface carrying an assembly of four guns. The panel is hinged at its forward edge and is supported when open by a hinged and extensible link 10 at its rear edge. Lugs 19, 20 enable the panel to be secured in its closed position by locking-pins. The blast tubes 12 of the guns slide through ball or cylindrical bearings 13 in a leading edge section 15 which tilts upwards as the panel is dropped. The whole panel and its assembly can be detached by removing the hinge pin 7. A spring 17 holds the section 15 in its normal position and acts in part to counterbalance the panel. When the wing is folded, 'the panel is on the outer side with its hinge uppermost. Alternatively, the panel may be applied to a fuselage.
