Abstract

578,110. Self-locking set screws. COUMBE, H. W. May 9, 1944, No. 8749. [Class 89 (i)] A self-locking set screw has a slotted end 1d to permit expansion by the coned end 2b of a hardened pin 2 retained in a bore 1c of a central partition 1b in the set screw by a head 2e. As the point of the pin locks the article the set screw is intended to hold, slight further rotation of the screw expands its end on the coned surface 2b and locks the screw itself. Instead of the screw-driver slot shown the screw may be formed with a hexagonal &c. recess, and in a modification the constriction in the bore may be formed at the end engaging the coned surface.
