Abstract
577,395. Recording polar reflection curves. BIRD, G., and MACLEAN, D. J. April 25, 1944, No. 7697. [Class 40 (iii)] Apparatus for recording polar reflection curves comprises a source for illuminating a test surface to be examined and a photoelectric cell receiving light from said. surface and connected to a galvanometer having a light spot which falls on a sensitized surface to produce a photographic trace, the source, the test surface or the photo-electric cell being moved relative to the other two elements for varying the angle of incidence or reflection of light reaching the cell. The sensitized surface follows the movement of the moving element to cause the trace to be drawn out into the required curve. In the arrangement shown, the test surface is mounted at 6 on an axis about which U-shaped arms 5 and 22 are pivoted, arm 5 carrying the photo-electric cell 8 and arm 22 carrying the light source 7. Arm 22 is adjustably bolted to plate 23 and arm 5 may be bolted to plate 25, but for the production of the required curves is driven by motor 9 through an angle determined by limit switches 12 and 13. The galvanometer is mounted in a box 18 and its spot moves along a slot 17 in a camera 15, the slot extending radially of the axis of rotation of arms 5 and 22. Within camera 15 is a member moving with arm 5 and carrying sensitized paper on which the trace is produced. The galvanometer " spot is preferably in the form of a line transverse to the slot.
