Abstract

576,551. Flexible tubes. TENAPLAS, Ltd., and LEMON, C. G. Oct. 9, 1944, No. 19403. Drawings to Specification. [Class 99 (ii)] A flexible tube of thermoplastic material such as polyvinyl chloride is made by applying to an extruded tube a sleeve of woven or braided material, softening the tube by heating and enlarging the tube relatively to the sleeve so that the sleeve becomes embedded in the tube. The tube may be subjected to radiant heat or when the sleeve is metallic heating may be effected by passing an electric current through the sleeve. The tube may be initially compressed by the application of the sleeve, or expansion of the tube during heating may be effected by internal fluid pressure. The tube may be finished by a coating of lacquer.
