Abstract
574,066. Knitting machines. BRITISH CELANESE, Ltd. Dec. 28, 1943, No. 21735. Convention date, Dec. 29, 1942. [Class 74 (ii)] In a warp knitting-machine wherein yarns are fed simultaneously from two or more positively rotated warp beams, means are provided for varying the rate of rotation of the beams in accordance with the varying diameter of at least one of the beams, so that the yarns are let off from the different beams at a constant rate. In one form, the two beams 11, 12 are geared together, and one beam 11 is driven by means of a positively infinitely variable reducing mechanism 20. A roller 34 carried by a lever 33 is held by a spring 42 against the beam 11, and the lever 33 is attached to the speed control link 35 of the variable gear mechanism 20. Where the yarns from two beams are let off at different rates, the beams may be driven at a constant angular speed ratio, and the internal diameters of the beams are in the appropriate relationship to one another. Alternatively, a cone-and-belt drive or a variable speed gear may be provided to vary the ratio of the speed of the two beams.
