Abstract
Compounds of the general formula <FORM:0573544/IV/1> wherein X is S or Se; A is an acid radical such as halogen, sulphate, or p-toluenesulphonate; R1 is alkyl, e.g. methyl, ethyl, or propyl or is aralkyl; Y is H, hydrocarbon, or COOR (R being alkyl); and Z is an aryl nucleus containing at least one NO2 substituent and possibly further substituents, e.g. alkyl, alkoxy, or halogen, are prepared by reacting quaternary salts of 2-methyl-4-nitroaryl-thiazoles or -selenazoles with ethyl orthoformate in dry pyridine. 3 : 31 - Diethyl - 4 : 41 - di - (m - nitrophenyl) - thiazolocarbocyanine iodide is prepared by refluxing together 2-methyl-4-(m-nitrophenyl)-ethiodide, pyridine, and ethyl orthoformate. 2-Methyl-4-(m-nitrophenyl)-triazole ethiodide is prepared by heating together 2-methyl-4-(m-nitrophenyl)-thiazole and ethyl iodide in a sealed tube. 2 - Methyl - 4 - (m - nitrophenyl) - thiazole is prepared by reacting together thioacetamide and 3-nitro-1-o -bromacetophenone.
