Abstract

Metal inserts arranged and adapted to constitute bearing cups and spoke-receiving flanges are supported in a hub mould, and plastic material is introduced into the mould and cured or hardened, the inserts being embedded therein. To facilitate bonding, the faces of the inserts are provided with interstices, e.g. the spoke flanges 13 have anchoring holes 19 and the bearing cups are roughened or serrated as by knurling on their inner sides. The body 9 may be made of urea-formaldehyde resin or polyvinyl chloride resin. The body is formed with screw threads on which are screwed dust caps 15. The left-hand spoke flange 13, Fig. 3, has an integral flange 31 forming a dust cap, and screw threads which accommodate a chain sprocket 25 and a lock ring 29, which may be replaced by a freewheel.
