Abstract

571,582. Cylinders supplying compressed air. HOLDEN, R. C. Jan. 15, 1945, No. 800/44. [Class 7 (ii)] To adapt a cylinder in an internal-combustion engine to act as an air compressor, the sparking- plug is replaced by a fitting B, Fig. 1, having inlet and delivery valves A, C for the air and the cylinder valves are so constructed that they may be rendered inoperative, the valve stems being made in two parts, of which the lower one is removable. A tongue and slot connection E<6>, E<7>, Fig. 2, held in place by a sleeve E<4> on the retaining- cup E for the valve spring permits the lower portion to be removed sideways when the sleeve E<4> has been raised clear of the connection E<6>, E<7>.
