Abstract
570,683. Measuring resistance. STERN, W. Sept. 21, 1943, No. 15448. [Class 37] [Also in Groups XXI and XXXV] Temperature.-A change of state from liquid to solid or vice versa is supervised by means of electrodes immersed in the material and situated' near the wall and the container or in a pocket 2 or small vessel connected to the container, which term includes pipes where a flowing liquid is concerned. The electrodes are connected in circuit with a source of low-tension electric current and a current-sensitive device such as a milliammeter. An electric heater 8 may be immersed in the liquid and switched on by a relay in the circuit when the temperature has fallen near that of solidification. The system may include an audible or visible alarm, such as a lamp 7, and may be arranged to empty a tank before water freezes. As shown, a single electrode 1 and a tank 3 are connected in circuit with a transformer 4, a relay 6 and a milliammeter 5. The supervisory current may be applied intermittently by a time switch.
