Abstract
570,115. Heat-exchangers. WESTINGHOUSE ELECTRIC INTERNATIONAL CO. July 16, 1943, No. 11617. Convention date, July 29, 1942. [Class 64 (iii)] In a heat-exchanger comprising a nest 10 of straight tubes 11 of circular cross-section which are secured at their ends to tube plates 121, 131 and are located within a casing 16, the latter having inlet and outlet openings 17, 18 to permit the flow of one fluid through the tube nest externally of the tubes and being provided with end inlet and outlet headers 14, 15 for a second fluid adapted to pass through the tubes themselves, the tubes 11 are inclined with respect to the plates 121, 131 at angles which progressively increase radially outwards from the axis of the nest, thus presenting sections in axial planes which are elliptical and so reducing the resistance to axial flow of the first fluid. The tubes are preferably arranged in concentric circular rows, the outer tube row only being shown in Fig. 2, and the tube plates may be of the same or of different size.
