Abstract
570,014. Inductor alternators. ENGLISH ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., and BALL, R. D. Sept. 22, 1943, No. 1.5513. [Class 35] The exciting windings of an inductor-alternator occupy all the slots between the salient poles on. the stator, these poles having toothed faces of the same pitch as the rotor teeth, but while the teeth on half the poles face rotor slots, the teeth on the other poles face gaps between the rotor teeth. The exciting winding is made up of a single conductor in each slot or so made up of more than one turn around each pole, all in series, that between turns around a N pole the circuit passes through a turn or turns around a S pole. In. the form shown, the exciting coils 2 embrace three sides of each salient pole 1a, 1b, 1c, &c., while the A.C. coils each span two adjacent poles or, alternatively, may each surround a single pole. The exciting coils may alternatively be of figure 8 form. To obtain an even higher frequency, both elements may rotate. The poles may be NSNS or NNSS.
