Abstract
569,998. Tail-less aircraft. MILES AIRCRAFT, Ltd., and MILES, F. G. Nov. 12, 1943, No. 18883. [Class 4] To counteract the movement of the centre of pressure in a tail-less aeroplane when normally nested landing flaps 4 are brought into use, a symmetrically surfaced plane 1, normally retracted beneath the central trailing margin of the wing is simultaneously projected rearwardly upon arms 3 at an angle of incidence less than that of the main plane. The plane 1 may carry landing wheels 8 and the whole undercarriage may be lowered at the same time as the flaps 4 and plane 1 are projected. Means may be provided for -varying the incidence of of the plane 1 after it has been projected. In an alternative form the plane 1 is projected forwardly from and retracted beneath the leading margin of the wing, its angle of incidence, when projected, being in this case greater than that of the main plane.
