Abstract

569,868. Safety razors. HEIDE, H. C. (Gillette Safety Razor Co.). Dec. 8, 1943, No. 20546. [Class 30] A safety razor comprises a screw member engaging a central threaded stem on the cap for drawing the cap and guard together to clamp the blade and for releasing them sufficiently to enable the blade which has a slot open at one end, to be inserted or removed by endwise movement, the slot engaging a reduced part of the stem, and the cap and guard being then brought together by finger pressure to cause engagement of a blade detaining member with an enlargement of the slot in the blade to hold the blade in clamping position. The construction permits a blade protected by a wrapper also having a slot open at one end to be inserted while still wrapped, the clamping of the blade by finger pressure holding the blade while the wrapper is withdrawn endwise. The cap 10 is provided with a stem comprising a circular part 14, a flat part 11 and a threaded part 15 fixed to the part 11 so as to leave a space between the parts 14, 15. The guard 22 is fixed to a sleeve 16 slidable on the stem part 15 and engaging within the upper part of the handle 17 which is screwed on to the part 15. Upon unscrewing the handle to the extent permitted by a stop screw 19 the cap and guard are separated to permit the endwise insertion of a slotted blade 25, Fig. 1, with its slotted wrapper 27, the blade being guided by ribs on the cap engaging the slot in the blade. The cap and guard are now pressed together by the fingers causing the stem part 14 to engage an enlarged part of the slot to hold the blade while the wrapper is withdrawn. The handle is then operated to clamp the parts in the usual way. The wrapped blade is constructed as described in Specification 569,875.
