Abstract
569,289. Electric discharge apparatus. THORN ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd., and BARTON, F. Nov. 18, 1943, No. 19308. [Class 39 (i)] An electric discharge device has a mercury pool cathode 12 contained in a subsidiary envelope 1 and 2 constructed to permit a discharge between the mercury pool and the anode or anodes, but to prevent liquid mercury leaving the envelope in any position. The construction shown embodies two steel shells 1 and 2 having re-entrant openings 5 and 6 which permit the discharge, but not liquid mercury, to pass. A tube 10 of electrically insulating material fits into opening 6 and contains a conducting rod 9 which carries igniter starting electrodes 7, 7<1>, 8 and 81.
