Abstract

569,187. Distilling and cracking oils. UNIVERSAL OIL PRODUCTS CO. Nov. 24, 1942, No. 16643. Convention date, Oct. 27, 1941. [Class 32] In processes for the distillation or conversion of hydrocarbon oils in the presence of fine divided contact or catalytic material, of the kind in which the suspension of catalyst and oil is maintained in a fluidized dense phase in the lower region and in a dilute phase of substantially lower density in the upper region of the conversion chamber, the oil is introduced into the conversion chamber at least m part in the liquid phase and is therein converted into the vapour phase by introducing heat carrying gas into the dense phase at sufficiently elevated temperature to vaporize the oil. The heat carrying gas may comprise hydrocarbon gases obtained in the process. Charging stock fed through line 1 and preheated in coil 6 is discharged through lines 8, 69, 71 into a reactor 10 supplied with regenerated catalyst through line 36 at a rate to maintain a density of 0.32 kilograms per litre in the lower part of the reactor. The distilled or cracked products pass through separators 13 to a recovery plant comprising fractionating, stabilizing and polymerizing towers 41, 47, 55, 58, from which gasoline and higher boiling fractions are recovered while the hydrocarbon gases are separated and fed through line 63 and heater 65 and thence discharged through line 67 to mix with recycled catalyst in line 36 and constitute the heated gases for vaporizing the oils in reactor 10. The catalyst separated in separators 13 is collected in receiver 14 and passes thence through line 15, where it is mixed with inert gases from line 18 and oxygen containing gases (air) heated in coil 26 and fed to regenerator 20. The regenerated catalyst separated in separators 32 and collected in receiver 35 is recycled through line 36. In Fig. 2, the preheated oil fed through line 74 entrains catalyst fed through line 100 from the regenerator 93 on its path to the reactor 76, the vaporizing gases being admitted through lines 78, 79, 80, 83, while the contaminated catalyst is withdrawn through line 89 and, admixed with regenerating gases fed through line 91, is discharged into the bottom reactor 93. Specification 554,227 is referred to.
