Abstract

568,243. Electric resistance heating. BRITISH INSULATED CABLES, Ltd., and SPENCER, H. G. Oct. 4, 1943, No. 16238. [Class 39 (iii)] An electric cable heating element comprises a lead sheath 1 containing two insulated high-conductivity wires 2, and an insulated high resistance wire 3 each end of which is connected to one of the wires 2. A plug fitting 5 is provided at one end and a socket 6 at the other end, each having an earthing terminal 8 to which the sheath 1 is connected. The plug 5 may be connected to a source of supply, or to the socket of another section of cable, so that the two high resistance wires are in parallel. In an alternative, the lead sheath 1 may be replaced by a braided sheath, the earthing terminal 8 being then omitted, and in another form the wire 3 may be in the form of a loop with its free ends joined to the wires 2 at one end of the cable.
