Abstract

568,175. Valves. PARKINSON STOVE CO., Ltd., and HERMANN, R. Dec. 3, 1942, No. 17205. [Class 135] A valve device for controlling the supply of gas to a burner for starting a coke fire is opened manually and closed automatically when the coke has reached a predetermined temperature. As shown, the valve 56 is opened by a pushbutton 55 and held open by a solenoid 57 energized by a thermocouple 61 arranged adjacent a burner flame. A second thermocouple 62 arranged behind a shield adjacent the coke and connected in series or in parallel with the couple 61 so as to neutralize the thermocouple 61 when the coke reaches the desired temperature. The couple 62 may be carried by a spindle 65 adjustably mounted in a pillar 66 and fitted with a graduated dial 67. In a modification, the thermocouple 61 is omitted, and the thermocouple 62 arranged to close the valve through a toggle linkage.
