567,736. Checking colour impressions. MoQUEEN, J. M. Sept. 3, 1943, No. 14413. [Class 97 (i)] An apparatus for checking the accuracy of observation of coloured light signals comprises one or more opaque illuminated panels 14 behind an objective lens 12, the panels appearing of a complementary colour to that of the background formed by the light signal. The apparatus shown comprises two telescoping tubes 11 and 10, Fig. 1, which carry eye and objective lenses 13 and 12 respectively to the latter of which are fixed three opaque panels 14, Fig. 2, one white, one grey, and one dark grey, which are illuminated by a lamp 16. When a coloured source of light floods the lens 12, the panels 14, on illumination by the lamp 16, appear as areas of the colour complementary to that of the background. The panel 15 is of red transparent material which, when green light is used as the source, is not illuminated, thus enabling an observer suffering from red-green colour blindness to distinguish green from any other colour. In a modification, Fig. 3 (not shown), the two tubes 10 and 11 are replaced by a single tube and the lens 13 is omitted. The device may be used as a test for colour blindness.
