Abstract

567,600. Sets. AUTOMATIC TELEPHONE & ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., and BAKER, G. T. July 19, 1943, No. 11709. [Class 40 (iv)] A telephone hand-set and its desk or wall support are so made, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2 respectively, that the hand-set as a unit fits into and substantially closes the mouth of a depression in the support, as shown in Fig. 3, when the hand-set is not in use. The cooperating edges of the hand-set and the support may be bevelled to facilitate the seating of the hand-set against the support, and may be unsymmetrical to ensure correct positioning. A movable plunger may be provided at the contacting part to operate a switch in the usual way ; or the hand-set may contain a gravity switch. The hand-set cord will be accommodated in the depression, and may be of the retractile type. The face of the support may be inclined, and the dial switch may be situated beneath the hand-set to be accessible only when the hand-set is removed. A disinfectant or antiseptic pad may be mounted in the support. Gripping means for handling the combined support and hand-set may be provided; and a bayonet-joint or other locking device may be provided to hold the hand-set in its support.
