Abstract

567,372. Screw propellers. ALLEN, R. C. S. Feb. 26, 1943, No. 3217. [Class 114] The pitch of the blades 15 of an air-screw is automatically adjusted by centrifugal force acting on weights 16 which tends to rotate the blades in a pitch-coarsening direction against the action of a spring 21 contained within the hub 10. The spring 21 presses to the left a sleeve 17 which engages an eccentricallymounted pin 20 on the blade, and the strength of the spring is adjusted by moving a collar 22 by means of a sleeve 31 which is itself moved rectilinearly by rotation of a sleeve 26 by a worm 28 which is rotated by hand or by a motor.
