Abstract

566,912. Kinematograph apparatus. G.B.. INSTRUCTIONAL, Ltd., and WOOLFE, H. B. Aug. 4, 1943, No. 12599. [Classes 97 (i), 98 (i) and 98 (ii)] In apparatus for taking successive photo. graphs of moving objects or scenes, of the type in which a kinematograph camera 12 is supported on a frame 15 sliding on columns 10 so as to be vertically adjustable over a table 14 on which the objects or scenes are displayed, the table is also vertically adjustable on the columns independently of the camera, and means are provided for automatically focusing the camera according to its distance from the table. The vertical adjustment of the table allows of varying the scale of backgrounds formed by back projection from a fixed projector below the table on to a ground glass or like screen which is substituted for the opaque table top. In the apparatus shown, the table and camera are adjusted in height by cables operated by winches 23, 27 respectively, the latter'having a fine-adjustment means 61. The camera is driven by a synchronous motor 16 through a known type of clutch box 17 which may be set for different manners of exposing the film. The object-supporting table shown comprises a top 57 movable on cross-slides by hand wheels 54, 55. A member carrying a turntable may rest upon or replace the top 57, the turntable carrying a table member which can be traversed across it and means for separately traversing a model. The automatic focusing'mechanism shown in Fig. 2 comprises a counterweighted chain 31 secured to the table 14 and passing over a sprocket on a screwed shaft 36 mounted on the camera frame 15. Adjustment in height of either table or camera causes rotation of the shaft, which adjusts through a slide block 38, link 39, pivoted arm 40, cam 43, and pivoted arm 44, an arm 47 projecting from the lens mount 48.
