Abstract
566,516. Variable-speed ratchet gearing. CARR, J. B., and HANDLEY, C. G. May 17, 1943, No. 7785. [Class 80 (ii)] A driving shaft F carries a crank G to the pin g of which is pivoted a rod H the other end of which is pivoted to a cross-head D slidable in a slot e in an adjustable arm E pivoted about the shaft F. The cross-head D has pivotal connection with another cross-head C which comprises a sleeve c in which slides a rod B having at one end a known friction device b adapted to engage, in one direction only, the rim a<1> of a wheel A which is to be intermittently rotated. The arm E can be angularly adjusted to vary the throw of the device b by a handle e<1> the arm being held in its adjusted position by a detent e<2> engaging notches j in a quadrant J.
