Abstract
565,833. Bowden mechanism. PHILLIPS & POWIS AIRCRAFT, Ltd., and LOWDEN, J. H. April 30, 1943, No. 4860. [Class 80 (iii)] [Also in Group XXVIII] A flexible tube, for housing control cables consists of a coil of wire or a duct of braided wire and a coating of thermo-setting resin, which incorporates graphite or other solid lubricant to facilitate the passage of the cable through the tube. The tube may be an inner coil of aluminium or steel wire and an outer covering of thermo-setting resin secured at each end by a cap. The outer covering is bonded to the coil by heat and pressure to squeeze the resin or graphite through the coil or braided wire. In a modified construction, a coil of wire is wound on an inner sleeve of resin, a covering of resin being provided on the outside of the coil. In the construction shown in Fig. 3, a fabric tape 16 separates coils 10A, 10B and inner and outer coverings of resin 11, 15 complete the tube.
