Abstract
565,153. Surface carburetters. McLINDON, W. F. I. May 12, 1943, No. 7587. [Class 7 (iii)] A conical wick 11 dips into fuel kept at constant level in an annular chamber 4 arranged between two conical chambers 14, 3<1> and is supported interiorly by a perforated cone 9, its exterior surface being masked by an imperforate cone 17 movable vertically to determine the area of the wick exposed to the air stream flowing from an air cleaner 16 through the conical chamber 14 and the exposed portion of the wick to the second conical chamber 3<1> which leads to a throttle chamber 2. The cone 17 cooperates with the wall of the chamber 14 to constitute a choke valve and the space within the wick and masked by the cone 17 is stated to retain a reserve of rich combustible mixture for facilitating acceleration. At low speeds, extra air is drawn in through a triangular port 24 opposite the throttle valve 3 and controlled by a slide actuated by an extension 29 of the operating arm 30 of the throttle valve 3. For 'large engines, two or more of the devices may be arranged to operate in parallel.
