Abstract
564,208. Ingot strippers. WELLMAN SMITH OWEN ENGINEERING CORPORATION, Ltd., and NEWMAN, F. S. Feb. 25, 1943, No. 3105. [Class 83 (i)] An ingot stripper has grippers 40 on levers 4a which may be pivoted in a frame 8 and connected, by links 9a and a collar 10, to a screw 11 which can be moved up by a sleeve-nut 12, gearing 15, 17 and an electric motor 18 to close the grippers on an ingot i and strip it from its mould M, which is held down by arms 6. The stripper, with the arms 4a and, by engagement with cross-bars 63a, the arms 6 held in the open position, is lowered by a crane onto the mould and ingot, the nut 12 is then rotated to close the arms 4a on the ingot and the arms 6 on the mould which they engage by hold-down faces 61 and pins 62a. Continued rotation of the nut 12 then lifts the frame 8 from the supports 8b of the main frame 1 and the ingot from the mould. The motor is then stopped by hand or automatically and the arms 6 are separated by an electric or other motor 25 acting through linkwork 26, 27, 22 and 20, Fig. 3. The stripper is then moved by the crane to lift the ingot free of the mould and transport it where required. The motor 18 is then operated to separate the grippers 40. The nut 12 is connected to the frame 1 by springs 14a to avoid shocks and maintain grip. The screw 11 may have a downward extension so that it may be used to push a " small end up " ingot out of a mould held above the ground by the pins 62a engaging recesses 62.
