Abstract

564,110. Electromagnets. BRUCE PEEBLES & CO., Ltd., and RODGER, J. W. March 9, 1943, No. 3797. [Class 35] A lifting magnet comprises a body A of high permeability steel having inner and outer poles B, C, respectively, and a non-magnetic bumper plate D clamped between them, thus forming a chamber for the energizing coils F which are cooled by oil filling the free spaces in the chamber. The coils are formed of interlocking chevron-shaped strip wound on similarly shaped non-magnetic rings G with varnishimpregnated asbestos, glass tape or other insulation between the turns. The rings are connected mechanically by screws G<SP>1</SP> and electrical connection between adjacent coils effected by flexible copper strips K screwed and sweated to the rings. The outer turns of the coils are similarly connected. Ribs J, keyed to insulating rings surrounding the central part of the body, space the coils apart and allow the oil to flow between them.
