Abstract
563,932. Coil winding apparatus. MICAFIL, Ltd. Aug. 10, 1942, No. 11183. Convention date, Aug. 5, 1941. [Class 35] The stator 2 is centred in a ring 3 which is indexed by a pawl 4 and ratchet 5. The winding head 6, which comprises a roller 8, and two intermeshed toothed rollers 9a, 9b, is carried on a rod 10 to which an endwise to- and-fro movement through the stator is imparted by a two-armed lever 14 and connecting rod 13. Adjustable links 16a, 16b also impart an up-and-down movement to the head which brings it at the end of each traverse level with the bottom of the stator slots. The rod 10 is also given a swinging movement about its axis by means of a rack 18 engaging a pinion, in order to form the end turns of the coils. The movement of the rack is derived from a cam 24, a slotted arm 23, connecting rod 22, lever 21, connecting rod 20 and lever 19. Coacting with the head to form end loops are fingers 7a, 7b rotatable in supports 30a, 30b, and actuated from the lever 21 by a connecting rod 26, double-armed lever 27, and connecting rod 28. The fingers come into action at the end of each traverse to direct the wires into .the bottom of the slots. The number of turns completed is registered by a counting mechanism operated by the axial movement of the head. The carrier ring 3 may be moved backwards and forwards mechanically when the winding pitch is greater than an angle of 100 degrees. In order to form the coil ends, readily removable horns are placed in the slots adjacent to the wound slots.
