Abstract

562,932. Screw - and - nut gearing. BAILLIE, A. A. March 12, 1943, No. 4039. [Class 80 (iii)] Nuts made in halves for the purpose of engaging and being disengaged from a screwed spindle as in lathes &c., are formed, as to each half as a number of separate tracks in which balls circulate. The tracks C in the face of each half B have a section, transverse to the direction of travel of the balls, slightly more than a half-circle so that lips are formed which prevent the balls from falling out. At the back of each half, the tracks are of a depth slightly in excess of the diameter of the balls. The halves are inserted into halfcasings F and retained therein by plates G secured by studs G'. A felt or like washer is retained at each end of the nut to wipe the screw.
