Abstract
562,124. Pistons. VINCENT "H.R.D." CO., Ltd., and VINCENT, P. C. Nov. 27, 1942, No. 16915. [Class 122 (i)] In a piston in which cooling oil is directed on to the crown and flows back through the skirt to a sump, transverse baffles extend between the piston and connecting- rod end to restrict return flow, The baffle 18, Fig. 6, may be attached to or formed integrally with the piston in line with or above the gudgeon pin axis and extend into close proximity to the connecting- rod to form a restricted passage 28. Alternatively, baffles 41, Fig. 9, attached to or integral with the connecting-rod small end co-operate with the piston wall to form passages 42. The piston head may be formed separately from the skirt and secured thereto by bolts. Cooling fins may be formed on the head or walls of the piston.
