Abstract
561,857. Transformers. PHILIPS LAMPS, Ltd., and JULIUS, W. O. Dec. 4, 1942, No. 17301. [Class 38 (ii)] A variable reactance transformer comprises concentric primary and secondary coils of which the outer is of sufficiently large diameter to leave a space between the coils, and a magnetic shunt mounted in the space for movement in the plane of the core laminations. As shown, the transformer comprises two sets of windings, the primaries P<SP>1</SP>, P<SP>2</SP> closely surrounding the coil limbs A<SP>1</SP>, A<SP>2</SP> while the secondaries S<SP>1</SP>, S<SP>2</SP> embrace the corresponding core limbs and also the leakage paths which comprise fixed extensions B<SP>1</SP>, B<SP>2</SP> of the core and vertically movable parts C<SP>1</SP>, C<SP>2</SP> carried by a screwadjusted supporting member H. The shunt paths may comprise packs of laminations curved to follow the contour of the windings.
