561,423. Packing. SIGNODE, Ltd., JORDAN, C. D., and NOBLE, F. W. Jan. 23, 1943, No. 1187. [Class 94 (i)] A metal spacing-member fo ruse in packaging articles has means integral therewith for securing a tie in position about a package. A device for packing cylindrical articles 7, Fig. 4, comprises spacers 2 each made of sheet metal and provided with side walls shaped to conform to the article 7. At each end, the spacer is provided with an integral flange 5, Fig. 2, having a depending lip 6 which is adapted to embrace a metal band 8 that binds the articles together. One of the spacers embraces the overlapping ends of the band, and the sleeve and the ends of the band are crimped edgewise to secure the band. Any other means may be used to secure the band, such as interlocking tongues pressed or punched out of the metal. Specifications 111919, [Class 146 (ii)], and 408,686 are referred to.
