Abstract

560,969. Carding engines. HOLT, S. Dec. 9, 1942, No. 17534. [Classes 120 (i) and 120 (iii)] Apparatus for removing dust from and ventilating a cotton carding engine consists of a self-contained unit fixed above the cylinder, doffer, and licker-in and comprising a motordriven fan a on a vertical axis, a hood e on the fan inlet located over the machine so as to confine the fluff and dust given off thereby to an area to which suction is applied, and a dust filter or separator g on the fan outlet for returning the filtered air to the cardroom. As shown, the unit is supported by brackets from the sides of the machine by brackets p and has a depending flap f at the licker-in side of the machine. In a modification, the hood has a telescopic extension at the doffer side and a double-hinged extension at the licker-in side, while side flaps on the hood may enclose the upper part of the engine. The hood may consist of a frame with fabric arranged therein and the filter may be readily detachable from the fan outlet for cleaning purposes.
