Abstract

Monoazo dyes are obtained in substance, or formed on the material to be coloured, by coupling a diazotised aminophenyl-methyl sulphone and aminophenyl-methyl ketone, the benzene nucleus being otherwise unsubstituted, with 3 - acetylamino - N - di - (b - hydroxyethyl)-aniline. Specified diazo components are o- and p-aminophenyl-methyl sulphones and p-aminoacetophenone. The products are applicable for dyeing silk, wool and fibres of synthetic linear polyamides and especially for the production of dischargeable orange dyeings on cellulose ester or ether materials and may be applied thereto in aqueous dispersion. Alternatively, the diazotisable amine may be applied in aqueous dispersion by immersion or by padding or printing, diazotised on the material and developed with the coupling component. The dyestuffs produced in substance may be incorporated in cellulose derivative lacquers or spinning solutions. Examples relate to the production in substance of the dyestuffs from diazotised (1) o- or p-aminophenyl-methyl sulphone, (2) p-aminoacetophenone. Specifications 274, 823, [Class 15 (ii)], 456,343, 457,679, 457,687, 462,233 and 485,336 are referred to. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises also the use as diazo component of any amine of the general formula (X)n-R-NH2, wherein R represents a benzene residue, X represents a nitro, methyl-sulphone or methyl-ketone group or a halogen atom and n represents a whole number, additional specified amines being 4-chloroaniline, 2 : 6-dichloro-4-nitroaniline and 3-nitroaniline. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
