Abstract

559,553. Type-bar-making machines. LINOTYPE & MACHINERY, Ltd. (Ellis, H.). Aug. 20, 1942, No. 11737. [Class 100 (iii)] Assembling matrices.-The assembly star-wheel is so constructed as to prevent the ends of its arms 10, Fig. 2, from acquiring a cambered form, owing to wear by the projecting side edges of the matrices 8, which results in an unsatisfactory engagement of the matrices by the wheel. In one arrangement, the central portion of each arm is provided with a yielding matrix-engaging surface, which is preferably in the form of a brush 12, Fig. 4 Alternatively, the arms are each divided by radial slots into a central section 16, Fig. 7, and two narrower outer sections 17, 18.
