Abstract
559,382. Electric soldering-irons. MESTITZ, E., and ELCO (TREFOREST), Ltd., Aug. 21, 1942, No. 11816. [Class 39 (iii)] The enclosure 2 for a removable heating element 1 of an electric soldering-iron is provided with the usual openings for the entry of the conductors 10 and the bit 4, and with a third opening having a removable cover 5 giving access to the element 1 without disturbing the conductors or bit. A shank 7 of the bit projects into the heating element. The conductors 8 pass from the heating element through channels in a removable insulator 9 and may carry tubes 12 into which the ends of the wires 10 pass, to form pressure contacts of the sliding type. An insulating tube 16 extends through the handle. The heater may be of thick wire radiating directly on to the bit. An interchangeable heater as described in Specification 553,293 may be used.
