559,169. Refrigerating. BRITISH THOMSONHOUSTON CO., Ltd. June 29, 1942, No. 8945. Convention date, July I, 1941. [Class 29] A cabinet evaporator comprises an inner portion 15 providing a freezing chamber 16, and an outer aircooling portion 24, the refrigerant being supplied directly from a float valve chamber 12 and pipes 13, 14 to the inner portion, and through a valve 37, controlled by a cabinet thermostat 38, to the outer portion, which operates at a different temperature from that of the inner portion and augments the latter when required. The vapour from the outer portion is led by a conduit 35 to the vapour space of a header 19 of the inner portion to which the suction pipe 17 is connected. The evaporators may comprise corrugated and plain sheets face to face and connected together at their edges, and the inner evaporator is similar to that described in Specification 450,654. The inner evaporator operates in the flooded condition while the outer one is dry.
