[Class 26] [Also in Groups XXI and XXIX] Relates to apparatus for controlling the supply of water to cisterns so as accurately to restrict the supply available for use during a given period, such as 24 hours, and thereby prevent undue consumption. The apparatus may be arranged so that the supply is automatically cut off during the night, and flushing or other supply is only available at certain periods, which may be spaced as desired, during the daytime. The apparatus comprises the combination with a feed pipe 20, Fig. 1, of automatic control means for placing the feed pipe in open connection with, and shutting it off from, a source of supply 28, and a restricted flow device 42 fixed in the feed pipe, so as to permit only an abnormally low rate of supply to the cistern. The automatic control may consist of an electromagnetically operated valve 38 and a timing- device 36. The water may be supplied from the feed pipe 20 to a distribution chamber 18, from which it is distributed to cisterns 10, each of which may supply a range of water-closets 14. One of the distribution pipes 26 may be led from the top of the chamber 18, or may be replaced by an airescape valve, so that said chamber, during operation of the apparatus, is constantly full of water. The restricted flow device may be a simple apertured disc 42, Fig. 2, or plugs 46, Fig. 3, or 54, Fig. 4. The cisterns 10 are preferably arranged for automatic operation.
