Abstract

558,136. Resinous condensation and polymerisation products. BRITISH THOMSONHOUSTON CO., Ltd. May 1, 1942, No. 5902. Convention date, May 2, 1941. [Class 2 (iii)] [Also in Group V] Mica flakes are bonded with a polyvinyl ester and an alkyd resin, e.g. in proportions 20 to 80 parts of either constituent. The flakes may be coated with a solution or with a heatreaction product of the ester and the resin. Solvent may be driven off and the binder set by heat and pressure to form a non-fusible laminated sheet suitable for electrical insulation. Examples disclose reactions between pentaerythritol and polyvinyl acetate ; glyceryl phthalate and polyvinyl acetate ; phthalic anhydride, pentaerythritol, maleic anhydride and polyvinyl acetate ; and cyclopentadiene, maleic anhydride and polyvinyl acetate.
