Abstract
557,322. Feeding articles from hoppers. NUELL, A. P., and GOLDING, W. F. April 9, 1942, No. 4671. [Class 78 (i)] A machine for feeding discs, washers, pellets &c. into containers comprises a V-shaped hopper 1a formed at its lower end with a slot 2a in which is arranged to reciprocate a slide 3a the upper edge of which is inclined at 4a and channelled at 5a. Discs 10a in the hopper collect in the channel 5a and, at the upward limit of the movement of the slide, are fed into a channel 11a just large enough to receive them and provided with a spring-controlled device 12a for reducing the speed at which they leave the lower end of the channel. The discs are delivered in front of a reciprocating pusher bar 15a, which, on moving from right to left, carries a disc on the tip 16a and delivers it to be held temporarily between spring-pressed jaws 17a, from where it is displaced into a container 20a by a reciprocating plunger 18a. In the absence of a container 20a to receive a disc, the bed member 13a tilts down about a pivot 21a and a lever 22a moves to prevent pusher bar 15a from delivering a disc. For dealing with thicker discs a modified slide 3a and pusher bar 15a are described.
