557,216. Electro-magnetic clutches and brakes. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd., WALKER, J. H., and FITCHETT, F. May 5, 1942, No. 6015. [Class 35)] [Also in Group XXXIV] In dynamo-electric machines for use a dynamometers, brakes o couplings, the stator is formed of a laminate( core with slots carrying hollow conductors which are short circuited, and the rotor is formed with teeth by which alternat ing current is induced in the conductors, and means are provided for circulating fluid there through. In the machine shown in Fig. 1 the hollow conductors D are mounted in slots in the laminations B of a yoke A, and are shortcircuited by a ring M, or by the header E by which cooling fluid is circulated through the conductors ; a detachable cover F is provided on the header for inspection and cleaning. The rotor H has half the number of slots of the stator, and may be energized by a D.C. winding L, and slip rings if necessary. As applied to the homopolar machine shown, the winding is disposed between two parts of the rotor, and is supported by bolts N from the stator. Specification 272,229, [Class 35], is referred to.
