Abstract

556,968. Adhesive plasters &c. SMITH & NEPHEW, Ltd., T. J., and BURLEY, D. W. March 27, 1942, No. 4127. [Classes 81 (i) and 81 (ii)] A surgical plaster, bandage, or the like comprises a base impregnated or coated on one or both surfaces with a rubber adhesive mass, the mass contains a material or materials, e.g., procaine hydrochloride or butyl para-aminobenzoate, adapted to act as a local anaesthetic : the rubber mass may also contain antiseptic means, e.g. parachlormetoxylenol or acriflavine, bacteriostatic means e.g. a sulphonamide compound, and one or more other medicaments e.g. picric acid. In examples the rubber adhesive mass contains, by weight, 1.5 per cent procaine hydrochloride, and 0.35 per cent parachlormetaxylenol ; 2.5 per cent procaine hydrochloride 0.1 per cent acriflavine, and 2.5 per cent picric acid ; 5 per cent butyl para-aminobenzoate, 0.25 per cent parachlormetaxylenol, and 5 per cent sulphonilamide.
