Abstract
556,326. Automatic exchange systems. AUTOMATIC TELEPHONE & ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., TAYLOR, R., and BAKER, G. T. March 26, 1942, No. 764/43. Divided out of 551,187. [Class 40 (iv)] [Also in Group XL] Direct current impulses received over a long line are applied inductively to the grid of a gas-discharge tube so that a relav energizes in the anode circuit at each impulse break and connects up an operating magnet which opens the anode circuit and extinguishes the tube. The invention is applied to a system for " demand " " working, Figs. 1, 2 (not shown), which is identical with that disclosed in Specification 551,187. In a modified arrangement, Fig. 3, for guarding against false operation by transient surges in the line, the voltage induced in the third winding of line relay A serves to charge a condenser QG through a high resistance YJ so that an appreciable time elapses before the grid potential of the tube GDT3 is sufficient for ionization.
