Abstract
556,061. Making sheets. WALDRON, F. B. July 21, 1942, No. 10123. [Classes 83 (i), 83 (ii), 83 (iii) and 83 (iv)] Iron or steel sheets are made from tubes that may be produced continuously by casting and drawing as described in Specification 544,386 from steel manufactured as described in Specification 543,245, [Group 11]. The tube passes from the last die 11 of the forming machine over a roller table 28, 33 under a saw, slitting cutter, or a turning appliance &c. 13, past a series of opening out rollers 16, 22 to flattening or other shaping rolls 29, 30. Each roller or roll stand is shown as driven by a separate electric motor 18, 24 &c. Means may be provided for heating and cooling the strip to improve its structure and working properties and the process may be carried out in an inert or reducing atmosphere. According to the Provisional Specification means for cutting the strip into lengths may be added.
