Abstract

555,967. Hopper-and-plunger moulding- machines. SUMNER, W. July 16, 1942, No. 10961/41. [Class 87 (ii)] A rotating feeding element 13 pushes granular material a (e.g. poultry food or firelighter material) from a hopper 10 through a slot 8 into a tube 7 where a ram 6 consolidates the material into tablets or pellets. The lower end of the tube is open but is slotted at 16 and contracted by a screw shaft 19 engaging a collar 17, whereby the moulding pressure may be adjusted. The tablets fall into a shoot 15. The amount of material delivered to the tube may be regulated by a vertically-adjustable curved plate 20 which masks the slot 8 in the tube. As the tablets emerge from the lower end of the tube they may be cut or broken off by a reciprocating knife.
