Abstract
555,663. Course-reading apparatus. GRACIAS, H. D. May 21, 1942, No. 6894. [Class 97 (ii)] A course-recording apparatus comprising a casing 1 within which a mechanism 7 carrying a map is caused to move in accordance with the scale speed and direction of the wind and upon the upper transparent panel 3 a similar mechanism 6 is caused to move in accordance with the scale air speed and direction of the aircraft, a control panel 5 being provided having instruments whereby the mechanisms 6, 7 may be controlled and operated. The mechanisms 6, 7 are each provided with four wheels 27 which are orientated by means of the dial 13 or 19 and synchronous motors 21, 22 carried respectively by the panel 5 and the mechanism 6. or 7 the orientation being shown on the indicator 9 or 10. The wheels 27 are driven at the scale speeds required by means of a control 14 or 18 and motors 25 on the mechanism 6 or 7. The mechanisms are each provided with magnets 28 which by attraction with the steel base 2 of the casing or the steel table of the map 8 respectively keep the wheels 27 from slipping. The mechanism 6 is also provided with a sight tube 11 and, if desired, a recording pencil whereby the position and track of the aircraft is determined. The apparatus is suitable for ships and submarines.
