Abstract
555,431. Electroplating metal strip. TRIGGS, W. W. (Carnegie Illinois Steel Corporation). March 3, 1942, No. 2816. [Class 41] Metal strip S to be electroplated is fed over a conductor roll 18a and passes downwardly through the plating bath between removable anodes 9 supported by a bridge 10 to an indiarubber-covered sink roll 13, upwardly between a second set of anodes to a second conductor roll 18, downwardly between a third pair, under a second sink roll and upwardly between a fourth pair, leaving the bath after passing over a third conductor roll. The bath is formed with sloping walls 3 to direct sediment to the bottom where it can be withdrawn through outlets 5, and at the upper part end troughs, formed by offsets 6, 7, and side overflow chambers connected by rubbercovered pipes 26 are provided. The cell is divided into vertical compartments by baffle members 8. Electrolyte enters the tank through pairs of orificed pipes 14 disposed below the anodes and protected against droppings therefrom by guards 15 ; it flows upwardly on either side of the strip to the overflow chambers from which it is withdrawn and re-circulated after filtering or other treatment.
